Your wedding invitations give your guests a hint of what is to come. The contents will set the stage for the upcoming affair.  Therefore; you want to be socially correct on the wedding invitation wording .

Etiquette is a body of rules for social conduct that tells  us what our society considers acceptable and proper.  Etiquette's foundation is basically common sense.  Your guests need to know who is inviting them to the wedding, the date, the time, and the location.

Wedding Planners will point out the preferred way to issue invitations to the  bride and groom.  Then it is up to the them  to make a decision.  Most will agree on these  rules for wording  formal wedding invitations.

1.  Wedding invitations are mailed six weeks prior to the wedding date.

2.  Black ink is used when addressing wedding invitations.

3.  If it is a religious ceremony, the phrase "request the honour of your  presence is used."

4. Include the phrase, " request the pleasure of your company" if it is a civil ceremony.

5.  Numbers in the date are spelled out.  However, numerals may be used for streets.

6.  "Mr." is abbreviated; "Doctor" is  usually spelled out.

7.  "R.s.v.p" is not included on wedding invitations, just to the ceremony.
